I have been involved with dogs all my life, showing since the age of eight, the first dog I exhibited was a Welsh Corgi called Beauty. Since then I have been associated with Shetland Sheepdogs, Dobermans, Elkhounds and more. I had a short time out of showing whilst raising our three sons. When they were finally old enough to look after themselves without burning the house down during their cooking escapades I decided to return to the showing scene.
I am currently on the Alaskan Malamute Club of the UK’s “A1” judging list and the Greenland Dog Club of GB’s “B” judging list. I have judged at the prestigious UK championship show Crufts twice. I have judged at the Alaskan Malamute Club of American’s specialty show. Jim is currently on the Alaskan Malamute Club of the UK’s “B” judging list and the Greenland Dog Club of GB‘s “C“ judging list. We have judged at both Championship and Open level many times, across many breeds. I currently serve as Secretary for the Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society and the East of England Agricultural Society and on the committee for the Newark & District Canine Society. Jim currently serves on the Newark & District Canine Society committee as Chairman & Show manager. We are both full members of the UK Kennel Club.
We saw our first Alaskan Malamute in the USA pulling a cart in a parade. This led to our becoming involved with the Mal’s and introducing us to so many new friends all over the world, including the USA, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Greece, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and now one or two in England!!
Hyteton Dogs have competed in all Championship Shows with Malamute classes and most of the other shows in AVNSC or Rare Breeds. The results from these shows clearly indicating Hyteton have had the top winning Alaskan Malamutes from 1992 for many years. During this period setting a show record that all other breeders in the United Kingdom dream of achieving. Hyteton have imported to improve temperament. We usually import from working kennels, dogs that have to work together can usually live together. Don’t be fooled by breeders that say that you can not run a team, how do you think Malamutes are used in Alaska?
Having served on the Alaskan Malamute Club of the UK’s committee in positions of Committee members, Secretary and Chairman, we are used to fielding enquiry calls about all aspects of the breed. Should you require any help or advice on this fantastic but sometimes difficult breed, we are always available to help.
